What is a ‘person of interest’?
On September 15, 2021, Laundrie was named a “person of interest” in the missing blogger’s case.
Cops said he was “hindering this investigation” by not co-operating with them.
The term “person of interest” refers to individuals who have possibly been involved in a criminal investigation but have not been arrested or charged.
Police could have an “interest” in the individual for various reasons- it could be because they are cooperating with the investigation or because they might have information that could help the investigation.
However, the term has no legal meaning like “suspect” or “witness.”
How are autopsies conducted in the US?
An autopsy is an examination of a body by dissection to determine the cause of death.
During the autopsy, a doctor, usually a pathologist examines the human remains inside and out while they can collect samples of tissue or body fluids.
During the procedure, they might removal internal organs for testing.
The extent of the autopsy varies, it might be focused on a single body part or to be more extensive.
Once the autopsy is finished the doctor will report on the cause of death and how they think it happened.
