The building was originally commissioned in 1876 by Australia’s leading tobacco manufacturer and horticulturalist Hugh Dixson so the Porter House started life as Dixson & Sons tobacco factory and warehouse – the namesake of the hotel’s first-floor hatted restaurant.

Now transformed into an ‘urban sanctuary’, the hotel was designed by award-winning architect Angelo Candelapas of Candelapas Associates and pays homage to the Victorian commercial era with curved windows that reference the original building’s iconic brick archway and accents of leather and pressed tin.

Designed for up to two guests, each Classic and Superior room comes with a king bed and a large 65cm television while the four Junior Suites accommodate up to three guests, with a separate king bedroom and living space
