Ron DeSantis calls Florida ‘blueprint for success’ while teasing possible 2024 run

On Saturday evening, Ron DeSantis made a speech at the Republican Jewish Coalition in Las Vegas where he went into detail about his ‘redwave’ victory in the Florida midterm elections. The Governor, whose political record includes disregarding coronavirus lockdowns, mask mandates and his opposition to ‘woke’ ideology, called Florida a “blueprint for success” due to his policies.

Celebrating his victory, Ron DeSantis said: “When you stand up for what’s right when you show people you’re willing to fight for them, they will walk over broken glass barefoot to come vote for you.

“We’ve got a lot more to do, and I have only begun to fight.”

This speech won the Governor’s first meeting of Republican leaders since the midterm elections results, in which the Republican party did not do as well as expected as the predicted ‘red wave’ results did not materialise.

Although the Republican party won the House of Representatives, the majority is less than what was expected.

Ron DeSantis, however, won the US midterm election in a landslide victory with more than a million and a half votes, the largest margin of any governor in Florida in over 40 years.

DeSantis is expected to run for president in 2024 due to his victory, which would put him in rivalry with former president Donald Trump who announced he would once again run earlier this week.

Some within the Republican party have blamed Donald Trump for the GOP’s results during the midterm elections as many of the high-profile candidates the former president endorsed failed to be elected.

Donald Trump favoured candidates repeated his claim that the 2020 presidential election was “stolen” from the former president due to electoral fraud.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie said: “We keep losing and losing and losing, and the fact of the matter is the reason we’re losing is because Donald Trump has put himself before everybody else.”

Former Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan also expressed similar sentiments and said he thinks his party will lose the presidential candidacy in 2024 if Donald Trump is elected as the nominee.

He said: “It’s palpable right now, we get past Trump, we start winning elections. We stick with Trump, we keep losing elections.”

In his speech, Ron DeSantis told his fellow Republicans:”Florida really has a blueprint for success.”

The Governor pointed out his policies in the Covid pandemic, which include resisting mask mandates and prohibiting public spaces such as schools from requiring proof of vaccination status.

Earlier this year, Ron DeSantis also signed a bill which would prohibit instruction on sexual orientation and gender identity in school classrooms from kindergarten to grade three, calling it “entirely inappropriate” for school staff to speak to students about these subjects.

He has also signed a bill which bans transgender students from participating in school and college women’s sports competitions in Florida, which took effect this summer.

Ron DeSantis said: “The state of Florida is where ‘woke’ goes to die.

“This is important because the survival of the American experiment requires a revival of the enduring American principles that make this country unique.”

He added: “Everything we do is rooted in those founding principles of our country.”
