Phoebe Waller-Bridge has finally been spied shooting scenes for the upcoming Indiana Jones 5, with co-star and leading man Harrison Ford.

On location in Sicily, the Fleabag star, 36, was spotted dragging Harrison, 79, out of a ditch before collapsing exhaustedly with him in the mud.

While the plot is still shrouded in secrecy, the sequence appeared to feature Indiana in some kind of peril, with Phoebe’s character coming to his rescue; yet, also on set, were a group of actors dressed as Roman gladiators.

Phoebe – now no stranger to action franchises, having lent her pen to the most recent James Bond movie, No Time To Die – plays Indiana’s assistant in the film.

She looked the part, dressed in architect garb: stone slacks, mahogany boots and a white blouse.

She was seen in some shots with a fedora – mirroring the legendary titular character’s classic costume.

Her ensemble was covered in dirt as she struggled around on the ground with Hollywood legend Harrison.

He appeared in a chocolate jumpsuit, with a parachute pack strapped to his back.

Presumably, the scene sees Indiana jump from a plane, with his assistant dragging him out of a ditch after landing on the ground.

But also on set were the Roman gladiator-looking characters, rowing a large boat on the nearby river, getting off, and brandishing swords and shields.

This would make sense, with earlier sequences appearing to feature a younger incarnation of Indiana Jones, and some sets decorated as if it were the war.

A Twitter rumour materialised this week suggesting the action will partially take place in various eras in the past.

A Twitter account, run by an anonymous movie insider known to tease accurate details of upcoming films, penned: ‘I heard this a couple months ago and couldn’t believe it but someone just confirmed and I feel like I need to say this out loud: INDIANA JONES 5 is… a time travel movie?’

The tweeter added enthusiastically: ‘BTW this sounds nuts and unexpected and I’m totally down for it. LAST CRUSADE and CRYSTAL SKULL follow the RAIDERS formula to the letter, so getting whacky and playing with the format for the last movie could be really exciting!’

Members of the production team appeared to be busy at work while wearing protective face masks amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Harrison was pictured shooting scenes for the film on the streets of Cefalu in Sicily with Mads Mikkelsen on Thursday – marking his return to work following a three-month break with a shoulder injury.

The Star Wars actor got right back into character as the iconic Professor of Paleontology as he donned his signature leather jacket, which had been layered above a yellow shirt and grey trousers.

His co-star, 55, contrasted his look in a dapper grey suit, which had been styled alongside a white shirt and a coordinating panama hat.

Filming for the sequel appeared to be back in full swing last month following Harrison’s June shoulder injury, which caused production to be halted for three months.

London’s Hatton Garden was transported back to the 1960s, where the production crew had convincingly decorated the street with American memorabilia.

Old-school cars and vintage store facades populated the hotspot, complete with U.S. Mail boxes, rubber tyres and weathered posters reading, ‘Blood bank, donors paid.’

Stacks of New York’s Daily News broadsheets were piled upon wooden slats with the headline, ‘Oust Cuban spy for Nixon plot,’ on its front page while traditional television and radio sets graced shop windows.

Harrison had to undergo surgery on his shoulder following his injury at Pinewood Studios, with the crew using a stand-in for crowd scenes during his absence.

A source told The Sun: ‘Everyone’s relieved to see him back and fighting fit.

‘It’s been a long ten-week wait for him and the crew. Filming has been held up but hopefully now it can get back on track.’

MailOnline contacted representatives of Harrison for comment at the time.

The Hollywood star remained in the UK while he recuperated from his shoulder injury and was spotted out and about in London on several occasions during the summer.

The Academy Award nominee has filmed the movie in London, Glasgow and North Yorkshire.

Filming was also recently put into jeopardy following an outbreak of norovirus spread across the site.

Up to 50 people had to be sent home from the Pinewood Studios in Iver, Buckinghamshire, following a spread of the winter vomiting bug last week.

The fifth and final Indiana Jones movie was originally due for release in 2022, however that was before filming was pushed back by three months due to Harrison’s injury.

It’s been a fresh blow for the movie – which sees James Mangold taking on directing duties from long-time helmer Steven Spielberg – after shooting was previously pushed back as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

An insider told The Sun’s Bizarre column because it’s Harrison’s last outing as Indiana, everybody was expecting it to be plain sailing.

Communicating: Members of the team made sure to keep walkie-talkies in their pockets in order to stay in touch throughout the day

They said: ‘After the initial delays everyone was raring to go. But now Harrison is injured and it is worse than first thought.

‘The film’s bosses have come together to work out the scheduling and it’s chaos. The earliest they think they can restart the production is September.

‘It was not what anyone was expecting so to have to change everything is a huge blow. Everyone was concerned for Harrison and they are glad he is on the mend.’
