King Charles will be accompanied by the President of South Africa in the Irish State Coach when they take part in the State Visit Carriage Procession on Tuesday. The occasion will form part of a packed schedule for President Ramaphosa, who arrived in the UK on Monday evening and will return to South Africa later in the week.

The King will travel with the President from Horse Guards Parade to Buckingham Palace tomorrow, after the Ceremonial Welcome.

Initially President Ramaphosa will be greeted by the Prince and Princess of Wales at the Corinthia Hotel before travelling to Horse Guards Parade in central London.

Once there he will be formally welcomed by King Charles and Camilla at the Royal Pavilion, before the Guard of Honour give a royal salute and will await inspection by the President.

The South African National Anthem will be played before the South African leader travels with the Royal Family up the Mall to Buckingham Palace.

The Royal Family Twitter account shared a video of workers at the Royal Mews preparing the horses and carriages for the ceremony.

The caption read: “No time for horsing around today!

“Staff at the Royal Mews have been busy getting the horses ready for their starring role in tomorrow’s State Visit Carriage Procession.”

President Ramaphosa is set to meet with Rishi Sunak at Downing Street on Wednesday as well, before attending the UK-South Africa Business Forum at Lancaster House, accompanied by the Secretary of State for the Department of International Trade Kemi Badenoch.

The aim of the forum is to “focus on investment, infrastructure and innovation, and will celebrate the social, environmental and growth impact that trade between the two countries brings”, according to the official royal website.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has served as the fifth democratically elected leader of South Africa since 2018.
