The bizarre scene unfolded after the climate change group, who are calling on the Government to insulate British homes to reduce emissions, all chipped in ten pounds in a bid to make amends with a cafe owner who had launched a furious attack at the group stating the financial damage their demonstration has caused to him and thousands of others. But their efforts were dashed as the owner turned away the cash arguing he could not take anything while thousands of others just like him were impacted by the group’s demonstration which caused hours of delays.

He said: “You can’t have a whip-round for me. What about the other thousands of people that are on the motorway? You’ve destroyed all their businesses!”

The enraged owner questioned why the group are targeting ordinary Britons on one of the busiest roads in the country as he suggested the group take their protest to Parliament and demonstrate in front of politicians instead.

But the protester insisted they have tried that but politicians are “not listening”.

He added: “We’ve written to Boris Johnson making a very straight forward demand but he’s not replied to it.”

But the comment sparked fury in the cafe owner as he hit back slamming how the group should “keep bombarding” Mr Johnson with letters.

While the lady next to him chimed in suggesting the miles of traffic jams caused by the group’s demonstration on the M25 would have had a detrimental affect on the environment.

The bizarre moment came after the cafe owner confronted the group in fury, screaming: “Excuse me protesters, you do realise that you’re disturbing my business?

“I’ve made no money today…  I’ve got kids to feed, a mortgage to pay and insulation in my walls to put up. How am I supposed to do that if you lot aren’t getting out the way and letting my business work? No answers… from any of you?”

Insulate Britain insists its protests will continue until the government makes a “meaningful commitment to insulate Britain’s 29 million leaky homes, some of the oldest and most energy inefficient in Europe”.

A statement issued on its website said: “We demand credible action now. Proper jobs for hundreds of thousands of people to start the first real step – to insulate all the homes of this country  – which pound for pound gives us the biggest reduction in carbon emissions.

“It is a total no-brainer and yet this Government refuses to get on with the job. This is criminal negligence.”

Similar protests on Monday resulted in the arrests of at least 77 people.
